The Green Dream Team in Fairmount Park

Mabari is excited to be the founding PowerCorpsPHL Crew Leader of the Green Dream Team serving in Fairmount Park. He is proud of his humility, ability to recognize opportunities for self growth, and compassion for the wellbeing of people living in his community. Mabari loves that his position allows him to assist others while growing personally and professionally. He remembers a special moment early on in the program when PowerCorpsPHL members belted out their program chant with such clarity and pride at the Greater Philadelphia AmeriCorps launch that they prompted City officials to come by and learn more about the program. A year from now, he hopes to be part of ensuring that PowerCorpsPHL remains a high quality opportunity for young adults to reach their full potential.

It is a chance to have new experiences and help communities throughout the city

Through his experiences working as a PowerCorpsPHL member, Akeem hopes to learn more skills and gain experiences that he can apply to jobs in the future. Akeem is proud of his strong leadership skills, consistency in his work, and determination. Once he graduates from the PowerCorpsPHL program, Akeem’s aspires to launch himself into a successful career.

Proudest aspect of working with PowerCorpsPHL so far:
Working in Fairmount Park as a member of his team to clear weeds and invasive plants so that trees could grow properly

Chaz is looking forward to the opportunity to give back to the local environment in the community in which he was raised. He aims to be a positive thinker as well as a diligent and hard worker. He is particularly proud of his experiences working in agriculture and with vegetation.  Once he graduates from the program, Chaz hopes to work with Parks and Recreation so that he continue to work to improve the environment.

Being able to take a tour of Philadelphia Water Works

Shawn hails from North Philadelphia and is happy to be a member of PowerCorpsPHL because of the work they do to help clean up his neighborhood. He prides himself for his strength as a leader. Shawn works as a determined member of his team. One day, he hopes to own his own house and car.

As a PowerCorpsPHL member, Bicell is looking forward to helping his community in a positive way to make the city a greener and healthier place to live. He also looks forward to the benefits available to him upon his completion of the program. Upon his graduation from PowerCorpsPHL, Bicell plans to go to school. He aims to better himself as a father and as a person, and to continue to work towards his personal life aspirations.

When he was asked to speak on behalf of his team and PowerCorpsPHL on October 4th

Marcus is looking forward to working with all of the amazing new team members he has met with PowerCorpsPHL. He is proud to be a good father to his son, Jeremiah. Marcus enjoys helping others and aspires to be a strong leader.  After he completes the program, Marcus hopes to work as a speaker for PowerCorpsPHL and to work with Parks and Recreation.

Taking part in the Greater Philadelphia AmeriCorps launch and having the opportunity to represent PowerCorpsPHL and increase awareness about the program

Jesse hails from North Philadelphia and is excited to work to help improve the community and make Philadelphia a greener place. He cites that one of the most important aspects of this service is that through their work to “green” the city, PowerCorpsPHL members are actively improving the oxygen supply and air quality in the city of Philadelphia. Jesse is proud of his own abilities to stay calm in stressful situations. He also prides himself a versatile team player. Upon his completion of his time with PowerCorpsPHL, he plans to work get a commercial driving license.

A North Philadelphia native, Jihad is excited to get to know new people and make new friends through PowerCorpsPHL. He is proud to be a member of the first cohort of PowerCorpsPHL and aspires to develop close relationships with fellow crew members. Once his time with the program ends, Jihad plans to go to college and get a degree in physical therapy.

Taking part in the Greater Philadelphia AmeriCorps Launch in Center City 

Luther is from North Philadelphia and is excited to be one of the first PowerCorpsPHL members. He hopes to help make Philadelphia a better and cleaner place to live as a result of this work.  Luther is proud of the love and support he receives from his family. He is also proud of his faith in God and his own good health. Once Luther completes the program, he hopes to continue to improve himself and work towards his goals and aspirations.

Feeling proud of coming to work every day and knowing he and his team members are making a change in the city

Donnel is excited to be taking part in this new and innovative program. Donnell is the proud father of two children and a hard worker. Once he finishes the PowerCorpsPHL program, Donnell wants to find a full time job and eventually open his own business.

De’Shae is from  Southwest Philadelphia and is excited to be a founding member of PowerCorpsPHL. She is proud to be part of the community and helping to make change in Philadelphia. De’Shae loves being appreciated each and every day for the work her crew does. She has noticed how her own attitude has changed since the beginning of the program. After PowerCorpsPHL, De’Shae plans to go back to school and learning more about singing.
