A.J. Adams grew up in a small town in central PA, but has made Philadelphia his home for the past three years.  He obtained his Masters Degree in Counseling from West Chester University and uses the knowledge he obtained to educate youth.  As a Crew Leader for PowerCorpsPHL, A.J. has a strong passion to educate and empower PowerCorpsPHL members so that they become active and productive members of the Philadelphia community.  He feels that with the resources and connections that PowerCorpsPHL has with the city the members will be able to obtain long-term employment and continue their education all while making the city a greener and safe environment.

Age: 22
What are some words that describe you?
“Hard worker, team leader, good listener, team player and eager to learn”

Curan served as a corps member during Cohort 2 and is now serving his second term with PowerCorpsPHL, this time as an Assistant Crew Leader. He gets excited when people notice the service that he and his fellow crew members perform, as well as when he witnesses firsthand the positive impact that PowerCorpsPHL has on its members. He is proud that PowerCorpsPHL is making him a better worker. He also takes pride in being an AmeriCorps member. After he completes his service he plans to go into landscaping.

Daquane White


Age: 20
What about PowerCorpsPHL most excites you?
“Improving not just the environment, but the community as well. Someone has to do it and there’s nothing wrong with getting your hands a little dirty.”

Daquane served as a corps member during Cohort 2 and is now serving his second term with PowerCorpsPHL. When he started his first term of service, Daquane hoped that he would be able to return for a second term of service and enroll in college as a part-time student. Daquane is now doing exactly that, serving as a PowerCorpsPHL member and going to college part-time. In the future, he now says, “I’d like to either come back for another cohort, or go into the trades, or continue my college education.” Daquane is proud that he is able to work and go to school and describes himself as determined and reliable.

Dajuan Banks


Age: 24
What do you want to do after PowerCorpsPHL? Or who do you aspire to be?
“I want to mature, gain responsibility and get my priorities right so I can get and keep a good career. I want to be able to provide for myself, and be able to help my mom or grandmom when in need. I want to just all around better my life. I aspire to be the man I know I can be.”

Dajuan served as a corps member during Cohort 2 and is now serving his second term with PowerCorpsPHL. He is proud of his commitment to getting up every morning to get to work and take this opportunity to improve his life. Dajuan finds it exciting to be a PowerCorpsPHL member because, “I love to work with my hands and if I can do something positive at the same time that makes a big impact, it means a lot to me. PowerCorpsPHL gives me that opportunity.” He has a passion to be the best and aspires to have a steady life and career. Dajuan describes himself as hardworking and loyal.

Errin Seawright


Age: 21
What about PowerCorpsPHL most excites you?
“I’m excited to meet new people and hear positive feedback about PowerCorpsPHL. I know what I’m going to do here is for a good cause.”

Now that he is in PowerCorpsPHL, Errin is excited to meet new people. “Getting the opportunity to be here and having positive people around me gives me good vibes. I’m proud to be changing for the better.” Errin aspires to use his time as a PowerCorpsPHL member as a launching point for him to build a career. He aspires to work in the city, dreams of playing in the NFL, and aims to be a supportive father to his child. Errin is a proud parent and describes himself as honest, positive and coach-able, as well as ready to work and learn.

Karisma Green


Age: 20
What are some words that describe you?
“Charismatic, dedicated, intelligent, innovator”

Karisma is proud that by joining PowerCorpsPHL, she was brave and left her comfort zone. By making the choice to put herself in an environment where she will be working outside in the city’s parks and recreation centers with people she has never met before, she is expanding her boundaries and pushing herself. She excited to be a PowerCorpsPHL member because, “I’m excited about the opportunity to change the world and have a positive impact on our environment, as well as get people interested in our cause.” When she completes her service as a corps member, Karisma aspires to major in psychology and one day become a criminal profiler.

David “Doc” Watson


Age: 18
What are some words that describe you?
“Gentleman, loyal, hard worker”

David is excited to join PowerCorpsPHL and be exposed to new opportunities to network and improve his life. After his term of service, he expects to seek out entry-level positions that might lead to a career. David prides himself for his adaptability as well as his strong planning skills.

Sakeenah Thomas


Age: 19
What are some words that describe you?
“Quiet, funny, outgoing, hard worker, proud mother, reliable, responsible, team supporter, dedicated, positive, open-minded, leader”

Sakeenah is proud that she has the opportunity to serve as a corps member because she views it as a chance to work in a team to make change for her community, especially for Philadelphia youth. She is excited to learn new skills, to work with tools, and to learn more about the environment. Sakeenah hopes that after her first term of service, she will be able to serve another term as a PowerCorpsPHL member. After that, she aspires to get a job that pays a decent wage and return to school to receive a degree an early childhood education. She hopes to have her own business in the future.

Quentin Fischer


Age: 18
What do you want to do after PowerCorpsPHL? Or who do you aspire to be?
“After PowerCorpsPHL, I want to continue to make a difference in the city of Philadelphia. I want to become a positive role model to others.”

Quentin is excited that PowerCorpsPHL gives him the chance to learn a lot and make differences in his community as well as the city as a whole. He hopes that the skills and lessons he learns as a corps member will help him get on track to go far in life and build a career. Quentin describes himself of motivated, caring, positive, happy and dedicated. “I am most proud of myself because I could be doing anything with my life. Where I’m from there’s a lot of negativity, but I’m glad I’m choosing to do something positive with my life.”

Age: 19
What do you want to do after PowerCorpsPHL? Or who do you aspire to be?
“I want to be a veterinarian or a pediatrician.”

Marian says that what she likes about PowerCorpsPHL the most is that it brings groups of people together to do good things for their city. She is proud of waking up every morning to get ready for work. She tries to always step up and do her best. Marian describes herself as funny and a good friend.

What about PowerCorpsPHL most excites you?
“The opportunities that the program provides and the paths that are in store for our futures after PowerCorpsPHL. I feel as though, by completing this program, I will actually be SOMEBODY! Also, it always feels good to give back to our community.”

Tahzay describes himself as ambitious, humble, debonair, self-motivated and open-minded. He wants to take advantage of every opportunity that comes his way and is very interested in exploring next steps with PowerCorpsPHL’s support. He is interested in pursuing steps with this program and potentially applying to serve as an Assistant Crew Leader for the next cohort, but he also wants to learn more about other employment options. Tahzay is proud that he was able to make the decision to join PowerCorpsPHL.

What about PowerCorpsPHL most excites you?
“The atmosphere, the people and the new things I’m learning. I’m very excited to be in an environment where I can expand my horizons.”

Brittany describes herself as honest, caring and determined. She is proud of her artwork and is always striving to improve her skills. She aspires to one day become an art professor in Italy. “It may seem far-fetched, but why is that? I’ve set a standard for myself that I know I can achieve.”

Jenicia Smith

Age: 24
What are you most proud of?
“I am most proud of my will to overcome negativity in my life.”

Jenicia is excited to be introduced to new opportunities, including networking opportunities, now that she is a corps member. After her time with PowerCorpsPHL, she is interested in going back to school to become a registered nurse. She aspires to provide for her daughter in the best way that she can. Jenicia describes herself as loyal, trustworthy and reliable.
