Drew Subits (Crew Leader)drew-rinaldi-subits

Drew Rinaldi Subits joined us last cohort as a Parks and Recreation crew leader. Prior to that, he had been a Social Studies teacher throughout Philadelphia for 8 years, serving students in both public and charter schools, as well as coaching soccer, basketball, football, and track & field. He also began and facilitated youth leadership programs such as youth congress, peer mediation, chess, and gardening/outdoors clubs at the various schools in which he worked. He loves working with youth because he loves their energy and it inspires him when young people make positive decisions to better themselves and those around him. He loves doing hands-on environmental work because it helps to reconnect people with the most basic elements of life and nature, and most importantly because now the future depends on it.

Drew studied Journalism, Political Science, and History at Temple University, where he was also a two-year member of the Men’s Soccer Team. He later went back to Temple to earn his Master’s Degree in Social Studies Education. He is originally from Allentown, PA.

Deonte Haynes (Assistant Crew Leader)deonte-haynes

Age: 21
What are some words that describe you?
“I am earthy, inquisitive, and ambitious.”

After PowerCorpsPHL, Deonte wants to become a member of his community that the youth can look up to. He wants to be a liaison for youth and help them network in the professional world. He wants to exemplify a young professional leader and continue to serve his community, state, and country with National Service and Army National Guard. He aspires to be a selfless servant and humble professional.
Deonte Haynes is from West Philadelphia. He is enlisted in the National Guard and is a Fire Support Specialist. He has been enlisted since 2012. He has also served over 1500 hours in numerous volunteering opportunities (ie. City Year’s Young Heroes, his local community food bank, Neighborhood Bike Works and the Haddington elderly home). Deonte has summer experience in construction and plumbing with local private companies.
Deonte feels great about all the progress he has made and the current path he is taking to achieve his maximum potential. He is proud of his team and the work they all completed; he strives to be an example and an inspiring figure. He appreciates PowerCorpsPHL for all the commitment and the unlimited support they put into the crew members and is honored for the opportunity to serve with the organization.
In the future, Deonte hopes to use the experiences from PowerCorpsPHL to establish his own pervious paving company to improve the city’s Green Stormwater Infrastructure, network with professional officials, and be considered a humble role model.
